Author, Lynna Kivela, goes against traditional and repeated beliefs that Narcissists lack empathy. They do have empathy, but not in the way we're used to seeing. The author explains her own hypothesis regarding the destructive forces that walk amongst us and why some of us, usually Empaths, are continually absorbed by their damaging energy.
All of us are formed into being by what the author conceives as our mother's 'Emotional Body.' My Sociopath infuses the emotional and mental-workings of all players and instead of a remote view of perpetrator, victim, and enabler, a vulnerable expression of everyone's intense need for love and acceptance is revealed. The author asserts that in order to recover from childhood abuse that results in a life of attracting dysfunction, we must untangle our 'emotional body' by examining the patterns in our life that most of us refuse to see, but that we must recognize, so to stop the destruction.
You will not only see, but feel, a combination of the author's essence of teacher, healer, creator and a person on a healing journey herself. The writer turns her ideas into well organized lists and easy to read segments with headings from not only the point of being a well trained teacher, but from her personal knowing that trauma victims have a hard time with concentration and focus. I am re-reading this book after just finishing it, because THAT is how good it was. It is very insightful, and I got much more out of it than any of my college classes. It should be read by any feeling woman, who isn't just a socipath's cheerleader (and, as the author explains, there are MANY women in his vapid social circle who are enabling him and will help re-victimize his latest intimate "target").I like it how Lynna, the author, gets into how this is becoming a sociopathic society, and many men (and the women who often are acting like men...she touches upon this early on, too!) have sociopathic tendencies. Attention Ladies Who Sill Have Feelings and Integrity: There are men who won't even know what a sociopath IS that are just looking to GET as much as possible from you, while giving as little as possible, if anything at all! It seems to be a reversal of the polarities in heterosexual relationships, but the male narcissist will, usually quickly, try to extract as much value (be that sexual, status-wise, financial, etc) as possible while giving the least. Hence, he will likely come off as "charming"! He thinks of himself NOT as a giver, but a receiver!
This book can serve as a warning about the epidemic of sociopathy. Thank You, Lynna, for writing it, and I wish you didn't have to suffer so much to gain this knowledge.

This was a great read!!!!
Excellent book. Have recommended to others in therapy groups. Well written and informative. Definitely a must read for anyone suffering from narcissistic abuse.
This is a must read. It made me reflect upon my life with my Sociopathic father and how it has manifested in so many areas of my life. It also made me think about the things I need to be aware of during my time of healing.
Must read. Work of art and heart. It made me more aware of who I am and where I came from. I could see, feel, and understand my own pattern of falling into bad relationships with bad people. This book made me not fearful of looking back into my childhood of abuse so I could understand why I do the unhealthy things I do, not that I was finding excuses, but so I could start trying to see and stop myself. I was impacted by Lynna's ability to be honest with herself and to help people like me to try to be better.
A very poignant story about the author's journey through life in terms of relationships. It becomes apparent that traumatic (and even subtle) childhood experiences can effect the romantic choices we make as "adults". As a man reading this book, I wanted to think that I was innocent of the characteristics of a Narcissist, or worse yet, a Sociopath, but I think the seeds of each can be found in the behavior of many men. A very great "read". I thank the author for having the courage to open up her heart, revealing her loves, her injuries, and her highest aspirations.
